ONE VET GETS ONE HOUSE FOR HOME; THE MAJOR-PART DOES NOT SO 'SERVE' AND NEED 'SERVICE' FOR MATTERS-DIRE AS WELL!!!

WLKY reports last night that local trade-unions are banding to rehabilitate a house for a homeless veteran ; these seem to be in connection with Habitat for Humanity and other NPO agencies. . . laudable efforts and quite rendered in a spirit of needed and uncommon altruism. BUT!!!! In Kentucky, veterans constitute just under 10% of the state homeless population, in 2020 estimated to be 399 persons of a total homeless population of 4011, according to a federal report . In Louisville, it would appear from a comparable-period report by the City and The Coalition for the Homeless, veterans constitute an even smaller portion of the total homeless-demographic=> just under 6% (5.9%, 85 persons of a total there-counted of 1421 -- noting well that other City reports have it that more than six-thousand people are homeless here) . THE NEED in the Big Picture would the-better consider not just fixing a home for one person/family, which in the sort of case as usual with Habitat for Humani...

WHAT I HEAR ON THE STREETS AND SEE WITH MY EYES=> Why Some Homeless Choose Rough-Sleeping to Life in a 'Shelter'

I live in a shelter as homeless person; I HAVE briefly needed to do 'rough sleeping' only when refused (as transgender female) bedding in shelters that variously DO take the transF folks (names already heretorfore mentioned in this blog, need not then repeat I think). I ask-around to get a gut-level view of what 'the public' and the homeless themselves regard as the prime or central motivation for this 'camping' as I have striven to call this kind of domicile; in this as well my own impressions as forced participant-observer in Louisville homelessness adds timbre and hue to the surmise I have gotten about these matters of 'having not where to lay one's head' even as homeless Jesus said. As with a lot of 'news' that does not appear in print or electronic media, I happen to use taxicabs for transit, in small part to see how the 'cabbie's view' of this condition frames an attitude not so publicized. I have polled about 8 cab drivers...

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN/HOMELESS=> WHAT ABOUT VIOLENCE CONTRA TRANS-WOMEN LIKE ME???

I am enrolled at the University of Louisville, thanks-be to my own sense of what Abe Maslow called "B-values," and have-now great potential to do research at the 'bibliographic level' if not as foot-soldier doing field research on the homeless in this town, essentially as a participant observer yet with a sense of rigor as a trained social scientist who knows 'how research should be done.' Ekstrom Library at the UL Belknap Campus is a kind of  'second home' to me, a comfortable place in which I can operate at the level that best-boosts my elan as a thinking-person, as career-student with then almost no concern that I am a look-alike-woman or moreover that I am a homeless look-alike-woman, a condition re which I have been informed, and re which with some softened reality as sheltered-homeless can well report. "I am reading the Lit" as scientists say when beginning an empirically-aspiring assay; in searching TheWeb now at Ekstrom, I have parti...

On Seeing A Woman, Deem-able as Eyesore to ChurchPeople on 'TheLord'sDay,' Near-Bare-Breasted-Sleeping at Mass Time for St. Martin of Tours Church

I, homeless but sheltered do too go to St. Martin of Tours (not my Anglican affiliates in Louisville) for Mass around 10am on Sundays that I have been in St. Vincent de Paul shelter for men (on Jackson Street in the 1000-Block); TODAY  AT THE SHELBY STREET @ BROADWAY EXIT-BUS-SHELTER GETTING OFF TO HEAD TO ST. MARTIN'S I SAW A WOMAN LYING ON THE SIDEWALK, WEARING A BLACK BREAST-TOP OF COLOR-BLACK, JUST BARELY MISSING THE DISPLAY OF HER 'MILKERS'. . . We as social scientists know of 'culture shock'-- this psychic disruption was approximately what I felt on sight of this nameless woman, and I suppose that some of the say 200 people who went to 10-o'clock service at St. Martin's-- if not the people passerby on TARC (the Metropolitan Transit Authority buses), if not TheCops, and there too was I. . . One who too slept rough-on-the-sidewalk for the first night in my life on or about the 19tclah of May, the second night that is of claiming but an open sky for my b...

To 'City of Louisville' Interests in Welfare of The-Homeless ('Those Roughly Sleeping)=> RE HOUSING CO-OPs FOR THE RADICALLY-UNDERHOUSED HERE!!!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- City leaders are launching a four-phase plan to get Louisville's homeless off the streets and into long-term housing. The first phase would create and manage a "Safe Outdoor Space" that would include services to help people find more sustainable housing. The next phase would offer a quick transition to indoor housing in a safe and supportive environment. The plan also aims to create more permanent supportive housing options and increase funding for affordable housing. TO THE CITY/LOUISVILLE, TO COALITIONS-FOR-THE-HOMELESS-ALL, TO THE 'CAMPERS' WHO ARE HOMELESS, NOTICE=> TRY FORMING HOUSING CO-OPS/COOPERATIVES WITH ACCESS TO NO-FRILLS SHELTER, ORGANIZED WITH MEMBERS AS A 'BOARD OF DIRECTORS' WHO HAVE PROVEN RESPONSIBLE AND RELIABLE IN MANAGING AFFAIRS-- CERTAINLY HERE FOLK WHO HAVE NO HABIT WITH ADDICTIVE SUBSTANCES NOW, CERTAINLY THOSE WHO HAVE NO SATYRIAC/NYMPHOMANIAC DYSFUNCTIONS. OTHERS CAN BE 'SMOOTHER SLEEPERS' IN...

Covid (Likeliest in the 'Delta-Form') Hits My MissionHouse/Shelter for Men, The Swift Turnover of Different MaleBodies in a Bed NextDoor

I heard on arrival at St. Vincent de Paul Mission/Shelter for men yesterday that one resident had come down with Covid; the missing bed next to my 'room' suggested that the one who had succumbed was a Latino named rather nicknamed "Cuba" (I think his real name was Hernandez), a jolly fellow who gave me no problems for being transgendered-- not a universal where I 'spend my nights.' Cuba was pretty conscientious about mopping our floor, and was not defensive about the ribbing-- in male-pattern-bonding form-- that   that he got from the other (more typically male than I) men up there. He kept an American flag on his wall, and listened to Latino music which to my unlearned ear sounded yes Cuban. Cuba out, somebody new in=> the Shelter here is no place to ass u me that one has a guaranteed hovel in which to take refuge; I learn and relearn that not much in my life and living now is anything but unstably fragile in station. The best I can do now to carve out so...

EXACT EXCHANGES WITH ERICA BRYANT (ARTHUR BRYANT'S DAUGHTER AND SEEMING MANAGER) ON APRIL 12, 2021, DAY OF COURT-ORDER-EVICTION

PHONE MESSAGE TRANSCRIPTION FROM APRIL 12, 2021, FROM ERICA BRYANT (THE LANDLORD'S DAUGHTER AND, SEEMINGLY, MANAGER OF BRYANT PROPERTIES) This is Erica Bryant. I was returning your phone call. We it's not that we're we filed an eviction on non-payment. We file an eviction on a lease termination. I sent you a letter on January 8th for a lease termination and it will not be extended after February 28th, since you didn't move by then that's 12,000 eviction. It has nothing to do with non-payment. So no amount of money can keep you in the apartment, but I do have two of your money orders. You're saying it's for number 20. I have no idea. All I was going to do is return this money to you. I have a money order dated March 1st for 360,000 March 18th for 360. We have not deposited into our accounts or anything. I've been waiting to get those back to you. But yeah, it's just it's a lease termination. Not not a non-payment of fiction. It's a lease ter...

AP JUST RAN A STORY APPEARING IN GOOGLE NEWS ABOUT EVICTIONS=> THE FOCUS OF THE STORY, A NON-FICTION, WAS A LADY WHOSE SITUATION WAS LIKE MINE, ONLY MY MORAL AND LEGAL STANDING WOULD BE MORE SOLIDLY OK=> THE LADY OF THE AP FEATURE, TARA SIMMONS, HAD BEEN A MONTH LATE IN RENT, I WAS NOT LATE AT ALL WITH THE LANDLORD ARTHUR BRYANT IN RENT, AND HAVE SOMEWHERE IN GOOGLE VOICE RECORDS THAT THE BRYANT DAUGHTER CONVEYED TO ME THAT SHE WOULD PAY ME FOR ALL THE RENTS I PAID IN 2021 MEANING THAT 'BRYANT' FIRM OWES ME, BY THEIR OWN ACCOUNTS FROM MY JANUARY 2021 RENT PAYMENT TO THAT FOR MAY OF THE SAME YEAR (I WILL NOT TAKE BUT CASH BECAUSE ALL THEY CAME UP WITH WERE LEGAL INSTRUMENTS MADE OUT TO BRYANT LIKE MONEY ORDERS OR CHECKS YES I WANT CASH NOW, THOU SHADY DEALERS OF BRYANT-KIN!!) THE LADY IN THE AP STORY HAD LIVED IN HER PLACE 4 YEARS; I HAD LIVED AT 3640 MANSLICK ROAD APARTMENT 18 FOR JUST OVER 10 YEARS, AND HAD BEEN A SOLID RENTPAYER DURING THOSE YEARS AND FOR ANOTHER PERI...

REACHING-IN FOUNDATIONALLY TO FIND THE ROTTEN CORE TIMBERS WHOSE BLIGHT SHOWS AS HOMELESS 'TOWNS' AS WHEN 'REACHING OUT'!

I just opened a set of pictures Googling 'homeless camps in Louisville,' and have become aware that journalists other than myself have been monitoring continuously the plight of 'rough sleepers' in this Metropolitan Area. Prior to this moment of having-not-home, I was not completely aware of the vast extent of 'camping' in this fashion here, my suburban living in Southwest Louisville deprived me of a viable perception of the extremity of this condition, a social problem yes, but much less so for validating social revulsion in this community, but more-so a terrible condition for those who must endure these vulnerabilities and face the gauntlet of shunning and legal ostracism that 'camping' in the midst of a great Metropolis will by necessity present. THE PICTURES which are many as available to see from bum this Louisville LOOK MESSY; but real people endure and abide in these makeshift domicile-places. I am aware that WDRB and other commercial electronic ...

NO PLACE FOR ME ?HEART-PATIENT? TO GET A BREATHER, NO PLACE TO PEE, EITHER!!!

Loitering , indecent exposure => these are charges a cop knows and on which makes arrests; those who have no-place as I am will if cardiac-cases will OR if normal find themselves loiter-able indecent-exposure-able on the streets of Louisville=> this means time like in "The Hall of Justice" (with some irony I think, what-our-main-jail is dubbed laugh). It is almost categorical that the workaday cop will treat this sort of trespass as good for jailing the perp, which means, of course, that for in usual cases exceedingly small charges, the homeless person can cycle into jail, and with some also-usual amount of time awaiting arraignment, and likely plea of yes-I-did-it, will have the criminal sanction imposed on her/him (yes there are women out there peeing and loitering just as I, imperfectly-but-passably-and-aspirational-ly 'womanizing' no laugh, poker face for this comment!) So this entry is about the potential human needs of this excremental and aerobic sort...

BRACE! THE FLOOD OF NEW-HOMELESS COMING AT THIS MOMENT WHEN EVICTION MORATORIUM E!N!D!S!

The eviction moratorium in Jefferson-County/Louisville KY has come to an en d. I must anticipate that what this city shall witness is a huge increase in the homeless population, beyond our now-incredible showing of  'bag people,' 'shelter-dwellers,' and 'campers' at common sites all over town. It could mean that I with a shelter at St. Vincent de Paul (for men) will have been the envy of those now almost surely destined for the kind of 'sleeping roughly' that I see for myself and for a substantial if undercounted cohort of homeless here. I do not know if by comparison with other metropolises, Louisville is more 'eviction crazy' than any other comparable demographic area. All I know is that IF in the face of federal and state injunctions against evicting folk-- particularly people as aged and as challenged by health problems (heart needing open-chest surgery according to some doctors, cataracts both eyes (blind in right), NOW vaccinated for C19, ...

'NO FRILLS HOUSING' UNDER A CO-OP FOR DOMICILE=> A 'SOMETIME DERBY-LIKE TIME' HERE/LOUISVILLE COULD BE 'MORE-PERFECT-UNION' T0 CONSTITUTE DECENT-LIVING FOR THE 'ROUGHLY SLEEPING'

Yesterday, I had the occasion to take a cab from the Louisville Free Public Library to the mission/shelter where I stay ( St. Vincent de Paul [for 'men'] ); the driver for the cab by his accented speech suggested to me that he was/is from Africa. As I get conversations with cabbies to 'check the news' as many people say they do as well, I happened to ask him what he thought about the great number of "campers" all about town. . . He said he had never seen anything like it, which to me was telling-greatly, because of his origin from what likely was a Third-World country, and he spoke as well of his terror of the plight one might have by 'being without digigalized ID or money $,' and said to my concurrence of opinion that the "cops"/police in Louisville are NASTY, especially to his hue of complexion (Black). The cabbie went on to say that he was aware that at "Derby Time" (the Kentucky Derby, first Saturdays in May unless disruption [...

I WOULD RATHER MUCH MUCH RATHER LIVE IN A LOUISVILLE WAREHOUSE (WE HAVE BUNCHES OF 'M) THAN BE HOMELESS TO-BE IN A JACUZZI-TYPE CODED PLACE!!!!!

ALL I NEED IN THE WAY OF SHELTER, DOWN TO BASICS, AS AN EXTREMELY INDEPENDENT CIS-M TRANS-F, WOULD BE A PLACE WITH NO      STEALING      OF MY STUFF, AND SHELTER FROM THE ELEMENTS; IN POINT FINE, WAREHOUSE SPACES HAVE SHELTER FROM THE RAIN, AND MAY-- WITH CERTAIN PROVISIONS-- HAVE SECURITY ENOUGH TO VOID THE STICKY-FINGERED PEOPLE FROM TAKING-- AS WAS THE CASE IN MY MAY 12 (2021) EVICTION-- MY VALUABLES NOT JUST INCLUDING HERITAGE-LEVEL CLASSICS COLLECTION OF TEXTS (GREEK, LATIN, HEBREW, COPTIC, GERMAN) BUT MY ONE COMPANION IN THAT UNVISITED OR VISITED-RARELY #18 APARTMENT 3640 MANSLICK ROAD 30215; THIS IS JUST     IT!     I PRICED WAREHOUSE SPACE IN LOUISVILLE AND I COULD GET THE EQUIVALENT FLOOR SPACE FOR $150 (RENT FROM MR. BRYANT WAS $340; I    DID TOO     PAY HIM 360 AS SOME GOOD-WILL ARRANGEMENT WITH IMPLIED FEELING THAT IN SOME WAY HE WOULD THENCE BE LESS-WILLING TO KICK-ME OUT). WATER COM...

Just How Funny was My Eviction, Madame Dominatrix Your Honor Judge of Louisville Evictions?

On or about April 12, this year, I had attended my Eviction Court appointment; I can say that such litigations as here are done in the Hall of Justice, downtown in Louisville at 6th and Jefferson Streets. As I had been having immense trouble with my bank ( PNC ), I for example did not know whether the rental-payments as WERE supposed to be taken from my bank account indeed did happen, so I brought with me significantly more cash than the entire year of rentals would-have-been. <Simply stated, my bank put up 'roadblocks' to finding out just how much money-- or not-so in OD-- was to my credit, and that did irritate me enough to this moment for me to have a happier account with L&N Credit Union, just some few blocks from here where I sit in the Louisville Free Public Library.> I had as I said enough cash to 'pay away' the usual problems that would be the concern of an eviction legal proceeding, as if indeed on some chance that I was behind in the rent-- eventua...

Practicalities of Getting ID Papers after the Holocaust of (Immoral but ?Legal?) Eviction for TheEvictedRentpayer

The Sheriff's Department does evictions in Jefferson County (Louisville) Kentucky ; with some insolence, the evicting officers who forced me out of my apartment-- for which rent had been paid, Lord of the Land simply refusing re-lease for me after 10years rental on ok terms-- these evictors with meta-force had me leave the premises at 3640 Manslick Road #18 40215 WITHOUT ID (PAPERS OF IDENTIFICATION) OR MONEY. Indeed I had MONEY $1300 cash about which I told the Sheriffs that I had this money in the apartment with wish to get it; these officers sworn to honesty told me wrongly that the Lord of the Land's henchpeople (none known to me) WOULD NOT STEAL MONEY-- yet the money was taken. . .I would have used the $ to get a motel, and for all other matters that pertain to living. So, bereft of ID and money I unsuccessfully for a large part walked into downtown that day, a walk then of 15-20 miles, to find not a motel, but a mission or shelter that would take me, but in the end now h...

"Open Hand Kitchen" (@ JeffersonSt between KentuckySt and StCatherine Louisville) Gives Me/Us Severalities of "Bread for the Journey"

'Chow Time' at the St. Vincent de Paul Society "Open Hand" kitchen for me has become a place to glimpse a rather ad-hoc "focus (group)" revealing the culture of those smitten of God homeless, rough sleepers and those whose rough sleeping is to eke existence in a shelter/mission as now I am (for my rough sleeping in the woods between the Ohio River at McAlpine Dam and the overpass of Superhighway 64 was abruptly ended when an evidently jealous colorful man assaulted me [1]). I see my ilk of humanity-at-bottoms in the dining area, and yet never so far is there concern shown that I as "womanly-yet-imperfectly" am a freak. Nevertheless, as womanly and wannabe protector of woman kind, what is a needle in my tenders to witness are the women, mothers with young coming in to eat from the hard hard hard streets, young and sunburned and less-then-pretty girls coming in looking tired, fat and matronly appearing ladies who seem by necessity to look tough and...

Report from TheEvictedRentPayer' to Nima Kulkarni, KY State Rep., and to Advocates at Louisville Coalition for the Homeless

The following is a "CC" of a Gmail sent to social-justice advocates Nima Kulkarni (Member of Kentucky General Assembly) and Louisville Coalition for the Homeless (Natalie Harris CEO and George Eklund COO)   Vernonlynn Stephens <vernonlynnstephens@gmail.com> 8:00 AM (0 minutes ago) to Nima, George, Natalie, me Nima and New Friends! I am, and certain of ye know, "camping" at the St. Vincent de Paul Center downtown (between St. Catherine and Kentucky on Jackson, seemingly a place for men, for whatever I as 'trannieF' may count in that regard laff). I did have an arrangement with the Brook Hospital in Dupont area to hold my $1300 retirement check until-- by 'hook and crook' I could get out to pick it up, but of late it appears that the check (not for July, which George Eklund and I snagged) for June was sent back to the Treasury on or about 7.12; this leaves me only a little in a fix, as I have arranged for a friend (Heather Pfeiffer) of UPS Stor...

THIS IS A COPY OF GMAIL SENT TO NIMA KULKARNI, SOCIAL JUSTICE ADVOCATE AND IMMIGRATION LAWYER AND KENTUCKY STATE REPRESENTATIVE, OF LOUISVILLE KENTUCKY DISTRICT=> Vernonlynn Stephens   < vernonlynnstephens@gmail.com > to  Nima ,  me <My writs will try to find a way of elevating the leasee's value addition and factors of 'decency' toward 'promoting the general welfare' (as do terms when one is evicted in eminent domain-- as when highways-building mean foreclosure to a resident owner. George Eclund says that something like this applies in Louisville's dealings with over-abundant 'rough sleeping camps' all around town.><I want to do so by crafting a workaround concept of ownership, owning real or even any property, which by Blackstone's adaptation of 'natural law' would imply that the 'natural rights given by the Creator' would dovetail with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (persuasive authority but not direct ...
